Detailed itinerary
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our driver/guide from Broadbill Safaris, who will provide an overview of your upcoming safari. If time permits, your guide will take you on a tour of Kigali, including a visit to the Genocide Memorial Centre. Afterwards, you will drive to Musanze, located near Volcanoes National Park, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Today promises to be unforgettable as you prepare for an encounter with the majestic and endangered mountain gorillas. Following breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled water, where park rangers will provide a briefing on the gorilla trekking experience. In groups of no more than eight, you will venture into the forest in search of the gorillas. The trek will take you through lush, forested slopes, tangled vines, dense bushes, and bamboo thickets. Once the gorillas are found, you will spend up to one hour observing them in their natural habitat before being guided back to the starting point. After your trek, you will return for lunch and, if time permits, embark on an excursion to visit the scenic twin lakes, Lake Bulera and Lake Ruhondo. The day will conclude with dinner and an overnight stay at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
After breakfast, you will head back to the park offices to begin your trek to see the golden monkeys. This experience is quite different from visiting the gorillas, as the monkeys display unique behaviors and interactions. They are playful and enjoy a game of hide-and-seek, bringing joy to visitors. There are two habituated groups available for visits, with the largest troop consisting of approximately 80-100 monkeys. You will join a group of up to eight people to track the monkeys and spend an hour observing them once they are located. Be prepared to follow them as they leap energetically from tree to tree. After the trek, you will return for lunch and then be driven back to Kigali in the afternoon for your flight home.
